I am passionate about helping young people grow physically, mentally and spiritually, and to see students become outstanding citizens in our society, while finding personal success in their endeavors.I have taught thirty-seven years and coached for twenty-six. I have taught English in the classroom at grades 7-12 for over twenty years, and Physical Educations for over seventeen years, teaching a mixed schedule for some of those years.My coaching career includes twenty-six years of basketball on the high school and middle school levels, in which I had the pleasure of being a part of state, regional, sectional, and conference championships at the high school level and a conference championship at the middle school level. I also coached several years of track and soccer in my career.Currently, I am the team leader of the Physical Education Department at Legacy Charter School in Greenville, South Carolina, a school that has made P.E. an integral part of its school charter. In an attempt to see both physical and cognitive development of our students, almost all students participate in P.E. every day of the week for the entire school year at all grade levels. It has been a great experience helping pilot this program, with the support of Furman University professor, Dr. Julian Reed.I now apply my knowledge of Physical Fitness and Health to my work with the residents of The Woodlands at Furman Senior Living Community. I began almost immediately after retirement in June, and it has been a very rewarding experience.
