Founding Member E-StewardsE-Stewards.Org Sep 2008 - Apr 2013Seattle, WaAs a founding member of the Basel Action Network's e-Steward program, I provided consultative guidance and resources to help shape the program. The e-Steward Standard developed by BAN and its advisors establish the most rigid environmental policies in connection with the recycling and the transcontinental movement of electronics and other materials containing hazardous components. The goal of the standard was to establish a certification program that will reduce or eliminate the often extensive efforts and expense to fully qualify a supplier of asset recovery or recycling services for electronic equipment.

R2 Steering Committee MemberUsepa Multi-Stakeholder Group Jan 2006 - Nov 2008Washington D.C.In January 2006, a large group of stakeholders met in Washington, DC to discuss developing voluntary national standards for electronics recyclers. At the meeting, a smaller group of stakeholders, for which I was a member, was asked to work with a facilitator to develop guidelines establishing best management practices (BMPs). The resulting document was intended to level the playing field among recyclers requiring they operate consistently in accordance to higher operational, health, and environmental standards that do not typically exist in the current marketplace. I held a firm position on closing the loopholes associated with fraudulent practices such as remarketing scrap or non-working electronics as reusable equipment, and lobbied for downstream transparency for recycled materials. -
Environmental Specialist, PlannerNew Jersey Department Of Environmental Protection (Njdep) May 1993 - Oct 1996Trenton, NjAt the NJDEP's, Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste, I acquired extensive knowledge of state and federal regulatory issues surrounding solid waste, recycling, and hazardous/universal waste. Subsequently, managing the first state sponsored municipal electronics recycling program in the United States. The program revealed a myriad of issues surrounding electronics recycling and triggered the USEPA and many States to focus on addressing the harm caused by improper electronics recycling. As a Planner for the NJDEP's Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste, I was assigned to draft County Plan inclusion certifications for the NJDEP Commissioner's office. I worked with regulators to develop policies and regulations surrounding waste management and recycling, for all types of materials processed by Municipal incinerators, Class A, B, C, and D (including Universal Waste) recycling facilities, composting facilities, and much more. I was also assigned the duty to represent the NJDEP at Solid Waste Advisory Committee meetings with County governments throughout central New Jersey.
