> Directed the design and development of a new product activation system, built in-house, and including - the client installation, - web service for online activation, - offline activation, - interface with sales system and license generator components. Resulted in significant incremental revenues through the identification of discrepancies between number of paid licenses customers were using and the number they had purchased.

Architect / Firefighter: 1995 - 1999> Worked on-site with customers troubleshooting and resolving software issues.> As technical and subject matter expert, contributed to product design decisions including designing solutions to UNIX and Windows functional alignment problems. Senior Software Engineer: 1993 - 1995> Key Architect in the design and development of a software product UNIX API on Windows NT using C/C++/Windows, Win32 APIs, and Visual Studio.

Responsibilities> PC expert in a cross platform, object oriented, C++ database application.> Built development team, prepared presentations, prototyped, selected tools, wrote white papers, performed analysis, purchased PC hardware, designed and implemented initial NT server set-up (hardware specification, software RAID 5, MS network set-up).> Created the NT half of an NT/Unix cross platform development environment.Achievements> Recruiting and team building.> Wrote foundation classes for logging, exception handling: UI Independent Model-View-Controller architecture, and translatable string loadin; all of these had UNIX and Win32 solutions.> STL, MFC 3.1, and socket++. The resulting environment allowed UNIX developers to produce code that would compile and link with the Win32 libraries and so allowed them to be productive in their native environment.

Responsibilities> Designed development for a Windows 3.0 application - a multi-windowed display server for a UNIX-based office automation system. > Project included significant Windows/C development with a small UNIX component and STREAMS and user-level device driver/multiplexer.> Maintained DOS network TSRs (which supplied a network API to the Windows), and the Windows program.Achievements> Globalised the product for translation into ten foreign languages. The strings were derived from UNIX catalogues and stored in resource only dynamic link libraries.> Enhanced the product from a Windows 2.0 only application to work with Windows 3.x by adding a DPMI Interface. Received a local quality award for this work, since it was done on my own time as a debugging tool. > Upgraded from Windows 2.0 look and feel to 3.0 by adding floating popup menus, 3D buttons and a button bar. Received an “above and beyond the call of duty” award for this work. > Designed and led the addition of a graphical installation and configuration utility for the product.

Responsibilities> Designed and wrote the software for an indoor golf game involving a player swinging a real Golf Club; the computer modelled the club head to produce the real-time simulation on a TV.Achievements> Wrote start-up code for the custom hardware, as well as drivers to control a large number of sensors which were required to capture the golf swing at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour. > Designed and wroter extremely tight assembler code - polling 48 sensors in a 150 microseconds, - interrupt handlers to capture timers to 0.5 micro-second accuracy, with minimum interruption to the polling taking place. > Wrote software to build a three-dimensional model of the club head at ball contact. - Data were used as a basis for ball launch parameters, and subsequent ball trajectory and roll simulation. - Simulations displayed in approximately real-time without the aid of an arithmetic co-processor.
