Network Delivery Lead For Boq Account

Brisbane, Australia

As the network delivery lead on the BoQ account, I was responsible for the daily operation of the Australian wide WAN, branch LANs and the associated data centres.Managing relationships with local, in-country and global staff, partners and clients led to a stable, effective network that enabled BoQ to concentrate on their core business.

Apr 2010 - Oct 2012

It Manager

With overall accountability for IT in Australia, my role within Peabody required me to provide strategic direction for the Australian operations, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (such as Sarbanes-Oxley) as well as overseeing the day-to-day IT systems management.I successfully specified and project managed the rollout of a dark fibre solution between our offices and the coal mine sites – these links were used for Cisco VOIP, SAP, Email, Internet, and video conferencing. Replacing the old links enabled our sites to operate as one company, not 12 offices and the project featured in the "Voice and Data Magazine”.As a result of the improved communication links, I was able to merge the individual AD forests to become part of the core Australian network that was based in our N+1 Brisbane computing facility.Building on that success, I was involved in the planning and consolidation of the US & AU systems including AD, Exchange and OCS. These activities were a pre-cursor to deploying SAP across all global operations as the SAP instance was based in our US headquarters. The introduction of the links also allowed for improved user access – the Cisco VPN solution (especially in conjunction with the NextG network), remote management and voicemail-to-Email allowed our key staff to remain better informed and more contactable.I had direct responsibility for the IT team Australia wide (four staff) and also manage the contractors / companies (including in China) that provide additional support for the sites.I was initially responsible for the installation and maintenance of the SBS 2003 system and grew the Brisbane office to 24 servers including Windows 2003, SQL 2000 & 2005, Exchange Enterprise Edition and Linux. These servers provided not only local services but also Australia wide safety systems, document management solutions and Email for over 450 users.

Dec 2004 - Apr 2010

Network Services Manager

Digicon

Leading the technical team within Digicon, I had three main areas of responsibilities: customer computer systems, the internal computer system and three web servers (24 x 7 operation).Customer trust is integral to offering the ethical service that customers deserve and my attitude of “never selling, merely offering independent reliable advice” has led them to hold me in high regard and also means that I exceeded the financial goals specified by Digicon. Dealing with customers of all sizes and with varying levels of IT knowledge requires me to listen, understand and clearly present solutions as well as actually completing the technical implementation.Within Digicon, I planned and managed the servers and computers (Windows, Linux and Apple), developed ISO procedures and provided help desk support to Digicon staff.I was also responsible for the web servers that Digicon lease to ensure that a reliable, efficient system underpinned the custom web solutions that we developed - this included preventative maintenance, system monitoring, capacity planning and 24 x 7 fault response.

Jul 2003 - Dec 2004

System Engineer

Computer Guru

As the primary technical resource, my role involved pre-sales consultancy, system installation and maintenance. The work involved dealing with a range of customers to determine their needs and to ensure that these were met, or even exceeded. The technologies involved were based primarily on Microsoft server and PC software and a range of networking technologies (including wireless, DSL, VPN & remote access

Dec 2002 - Mar 2003

Owner / Director

Lan Works

I formed LAN Works to treat customers ethically, not simply as objects to generate money, and four years later, it had become a very well-respected and successful company.Customer Relations - Customer satisfaction was the primary objective and at all stages of the relationship, I was responsible for ensuring that the customers were happy with LAN Works. This would normally begin with an understanding of their business needs and how IT could help meet their objectives - where relevant, options were detailed and quotations raised. Once customer acceptance had been gained, continued customer contact ensured the smooth implementation of their solution and improved their return on their investment.Staff Development - Choosing, and managing, the right team was critical to the success of LAN Works and, of course, this involved more than simply paying and training them. I recognised the efforts that our staff made (including the support of their partners) - praise was given when due, financial rewards reflecting continued improvements and guidance given when improvements were required.Project Management - Given the obvious need for business continuity and the integral role that IT plays in customer operations, it was imperative that any activity was carefully planned and undertaken. I was responsible for ensuring timely delivery of our contracted services whether acting as project manager for a number of third party suppliers or merely as a subcontractor. Typically this could involve architects, building and electrical contractors together with internal customer staff in functions such as training, health & safety and quality management.Installation & Support - As well as installing the network, I learnt the fundamentals of any proprietary software to better support the customer, thus ensuring that the system was reliably maintained and growth properly planned.

Nov 1998 - Oct 2002

Network Engineer

Edr Ltd

I re-joined EDR (who I had worked for before completing my degree) as a network engineer and within six months was leading the network department. My responsibilities included project planning, staff management and on-site installations.
