About David Bara

David Bara is the Co-founder of the social enterprise WeCanAccess Ltd and WeCanAccess Training. He is also a Senior Lecturer of Special Needs having supervised successfully over 220 people internationally with the MA dissertations. He is the father of two children with additional needs and disabilities. In 2012 his daughter was treated for a malignant and aggressive brain tumour, WeCanAccess is his response to the challenges his family, and others like them face when trying to navigate life with hidden and visible disabilities. David's company has been identified as pioneers in their field by #LearningPlanet. David's mission with wife, @EmmaBara, is to make the world a more accessible place for all. David was bullied at school, he struggled with spelling and grammar, as result struggled to get qualifications and did many different jobs. Fortunately in the late 90's word processing software was developed which enabled him to over come his spelling and grammar challenges. He saw the personal struggles his father had with disabilities including being diagnosed with Multiple system atrophy (MSA) a rare condition of the nervous system that caused gradual damage to his nerve cells in the brain leading to his father not being able to care for himself independently. As a result of his daughter's cancer, he accidently became an academic due to a random conversation as then became a published academic and has given international talks on the issue and challenges that children with cancer and their families face. David in 2017 advised the former UK SEND Tzar on how to improve the healthcare pathways for children with #specialneeds and those going through treatment for chronic illnesses. He has given talks on internationally on accessibility and inclusion including to Microsoft and at Europe's leading business school HEC Paris and how this links to the UN suitable develop goals. David and his company recently updated the inclusive education policy of Nigeria. David was part of the governance of Success a fund within University College Hospital London that focuses on the late effects on both benign and malignant paediatric brain tumours.
