From 30 years or so of Change Management experience I have created the Causeway | Connected Business Change Handbook.There is a gap in the change managers’ toolkit, between strategic vision and program control work. What is missing is a toolkit for new business design. To improve the established business change process, four factors need attention. First, successful business change needs clear understanding of both internal and external business connections. Second, the design work should focus on business dynamics, not merely transactions. Third, signoff decisions should be made on commercial viability, not ‘doability’. This prioritises a focus on the market outcome.Fourth, design should be frontloaded and at a sufficient level of detail for co-ordination. Like an architect’s plans, this will provide a clear, coherent blueprint to all parts of the business and its partners.
