About David Benham
Now focusing on helping entrepreneurs succeed and attract more capital to their climate or cleantech start-up. This is to become a key part of my legacy while having some fun too!I volunteer as an ambassador and mentor for the non-profit Cleantech Open, one of the oldest and largest cleantech accelerators (~100 startups/year since 2005). I have been a part of the selection committee and a pitch mentor for the annual NREL Industry Growth Forum since 2020 and I am on various committees for the E8 Angels. If you are a climate entrepreneur and want to learn more about the E8 Angels, etc, please reach out to me. I am particularly interested in digital-centric climate solutions, such as GHG accounting and measurement, reporting & verification (MRV), marketplaces, workforce transformation as well as AI/ML applied to improve renewable energy, decarbonizing the grid and the built environment, etc.Previously: Director, Collaboration Technology Group, Office of the CTO, Cisco Systems. My team and I at Cisco led the technology strategy for video, audio, and resiliency for the collaboration business (e.g. Webex, Telepresence). We helped lead the Alliance for Open Media in establishing a new video codec standard and were active in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). In my time at Cisco Systems, I was a bit of an intrapreneur having launched a new product line, started open-source projects, and started two new cross-industry alliance organizations. I also led a five-year-long, third-party developer initiative for the Telepresence Interoperability Protocol to meet antitrust commitments made to the European Commission.
