David Bershad attended Cornell University where he received his undergraduate degree. He received a law degree from Columbia Law School. In 1968, Bershad became the first associate of Melvyn Weiss and Lawrence Milberg and he focused on securities litigation. He became a partner at the Milberg Firm in 1970 and remained there for the rest of his working career. In addition to his litigation work, he supervised the day-to-day operations at the Milberg firm and was their primary administrator for years. During college, Mr. Bershad participated in ROTC and was commissioned, when he graduated as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. After law school, he was trained as a Military Police Officer and he was assigned to the Armed Forces Police Department in the New York area where he served for two years. David Bershad has participated in a great deal of charity work. He established a charitable foundation in 1998 and has contributed more than $3 million to charitable organizations. He has endowed a professorship in Hunter’s department of art history with a grant of over $1 million as well as a scholarship fund at Cornell University that he endowed.
