As an experienced aviator with extensive knowledge of worldwide air operations and capabilities, my role is to advise, direct, guide and assure Dstl research and output. My remit is broad, from understanding the requirements and needs of the military customer and translating that into relevant and achievable deliverables, to informing Operational Analysis that underpins major procurement programmes and providing specialist knowledge of current and future niche capabilities. As a current Qualified Multi-Engine Tactics Instructor (QMETI) I work extensively across the Dstl Survivability and Operational Analysis and Decision Support Themes, whilst at the same time leading the development of future Air to Air Refuelling concepts and technology development, ensuring coherence with Industry and international partners.

Military Advisor at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl).Responsible for providing military advice on issues concerning Maritime Patrol, Reconnaissance and Attack, Air Transport, Air to Air Refuelling, Aerial Delivery, Command Support Air Transport and aircraft survivability matters in support of projects and studies conducted by Dstl.Responsibilities and tasks:• Air Mobility specialist advisor in the Platform Systems Division of Dstl covering all current, future and potential fixed wing AT, AAR and specialist platforms.• Maritime Patrol advisor covering weapons, sensors and aircraft capability development.• Electronic Warfare (EW) specialist covering all aspects of aircraft integrated survivability including EO/IR and RF DASS, vulnerability and tactics. • Liaison with front-line commands, MoD, warfare centres, other Dstl departments and pan military organisations, primarily in the air domain but also in the Joint environment.• Member of joint scientific/military project teams studying topics such as the assessment of Large Aircraft capabilities and their effectiveness, informing capability gap analysis, balance of investment work, capability planning & equipment procurement.• Development and construction of policy compliant scenarios to meet specific study requirements involving Large Aircraft and emerging technologies.• Member of vulnerability and DASS trials teams investigating and developing aspects of capability and survivability through physical experiment and examination.• UK lead for the development of Automated AAR (A3R) for unmanned receiver aircraft and Technical Advisor to the Air Refuelling Systems Advisory Group (ARSAG).
