Research Project: This work experience is aimed at further study c-FLIP molecular role and involvement in immunosuppression. Lentiviral particles containing the c-FLIP construct have been produced in our laboratory to obtain c-FLIP over-expressing monocytes by lentiviral infection. Infected cells are used to determine c-FLIP over-expression effects at transcriptional level by Real-Time PCR and RNA-seq. Moreover, their immunosuppressive properties are assessed through an in vitro immunosuppressionassay, defined as MLPC (Mixed Lymphocyte Peptide Culture).

MSc thesis: "A preliminary study on cellular FLICE-Like Inhibitory Protein (c-FLIP) as potential factor involved in myeloid cells immunosuppression of advanced NSCLC patients."Research Project: c-FLIP is an anti-apoptotic protein that has been reported to be over-expressed in several cancer settings, including lung cancer. In addition to its original role, c-FLIP is required for the survival of MDSCs, a population of immunosuppressive myeloid cells which is characteristic of cancer microenvironment. During my internship we investigated the direct correlation between c-FLIP expression and the immunosuppressive properties of monocytes isolated from a cohort of NSCLC (Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer) patients.

BSc thesis: "Engineering of cystathionine β-synthase of Toxoplasma gondii for structural studies."Research project: Toxoplasma gondii is the causative agent of toxoplasmosis. During my internship we focused on the expression, purification and biochemical characterization of mutants of cystathionine 𝛽-synthase, a central enzyme for T.gondii metabolism, in order to facilitate its crystallization and obtain a 3D structure for future studies of drug design.
