Tower Capital launched a Short Bias Fund in November 2015 which I co-managed alongside Hubert Steenkamp. The Fund's net exposure was anywhere between -60% to 0% with a gross exposure limit of 200%. The fund predominantly invested in short positions in SA equities and emerging market options, providing investors with portfolio protection in a downward market.

We were responsible for the strategy, idea generation, trade implementation and execution.

I was the first analyst hired at Tower Capital and my duties involved the following: compliance, marketing, quantitative analysis on underlying investments and sub-strategies, monthly factsheets, performance reporting, risk management and reporting. In my 2nd year I brought on and managed an asset management software (SGGG) which provides portfolio and order management solutions. I was also an integral part in launching all of Tower’s products post the flagship fund.Tower’s AUM when I began was R127m and successfully grew to R3.5bn as of December 2015. I personally managed to raise c.R100m from various high net worth individuals and family offices during my tenure at Tower Capital.

As part of the Operations team, my position was a Fund Accountant for a Funds of Hedge Funds manager with $2b AUM, running in exces of 12 portfolios. The role entailed liaising with administrators, approving NAVs, producing weekly estimate NAVs, cash forecasting for the portfolio managers, currency hedging at the investor and portfolio level, and other investment administration.
