Australia, Png, Solomon Islands

Managing WWF-Australia's sustainable development and conservation projects, leading engagement with relevant domestic and international stakeholders, particularly the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of the Environment, and Council for International Development. I provided strategic and high-level advice to the Board of Directors, Executive Team and project managers to support the delivery of sustainable development outcomes in the Coral Triangle and South-West Pacific, including transparency, accountability and reporting obligations under the Australian NGO Cooperation Program. I managed program risks, developed proposals and secured new financing to assist WWF to achieve its sustainable development and conservation objectives across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.Selected projects:- Coral Triangle and South-West Pacific High Impact Initiative.- Improving the livelihoods of coastal communities in Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, through sustainable fisheries and financial inclusion

Leading teams in strategic planning and policy design across urban and rural water, energy and climate change, pollution and waste management, biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, marine and coastal policy. Preparing economic analysis, modelling, policy analysis and decision support for the Department’s senior executive and line areas. Specialist support to all areas of the Department, assessing economic and social impacts of proposals, assisting with the form and expression of economic arguments and policy rationale to maximize impact.Preparation of knowledge products, training materials and workshops relating to environmental economics, behavioural insights, green growth and sustainability. Coordinating across government on cabinet submissions, parliamentary reporting and accountability, and leading input to multilateral processes including OECD, UN and APEC.

Design and delivery of national biodiversity programs and policies, with a focus on agri-environmental markets, private sector participation, incentives and market-based mechanisms, including payments for ecosystem services, reverse auctions, revolving funds, offsets and biobanking schemes. I managed initiatives that supported sustainable resource management, climate change resilience, environmental stewardship and conservation, and guided implementation of a major government investment in Australia's biodiversity hotspots.

China, Greater Mekong Region

I served as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development in China, under the volunteer program of the Australian Agency for International Development. As an expert advisor to the Foreign Techno-Economic Cooperation Division, I supported the Yunnan Environmental Protection Bureau in the design and implementation of environmental protection and poverty alleviation projects across Yunnan Province and the Greater Mekong Region. I provided policy advice and capacity-building assistance with the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of international environmental development projects, with funding support of bilateral and multilateral partners.Selected projects: - Greater Mekong Subregion Biodiversity Conservation Corridor Initiative (collaborator: Asian Development Bank).- Strengthening The Institutional Framework For Biodiversity Management In Yunnan Province (collaborator: EU-China Biodiversity Programme).- Building capacity in Strategic Environmental Assessments (collaborator: Swedish International Development Agency).- Feasibility study on viability & integration of large-scale photovoltaic modules in Kunming (collaborator: Yunnan Tianda PV).- Eco-sanitation, waste and watershed management project at Puzhehei Lake (collaborator: SwissRe). - Remediation of previous arsenic smelter and refinery plant in Wenshan Prefecture(collaborator: Blacksmiths Institute).

I supported the design and implementation of policy and programs targeting environmental and agricultural risks, climate change resilience and water security. This included water trading, irrigation efficiency, water quality management and recycling in the Murray-Darling Basin. I managed major national programs investing in riverine environmental management and riparian restoration, and prepared complex briefing materials, public documents, correspondence and speeches for the Minister and Executive, relating to natural resources and agricultural policy, climate change resilience and water management. I conducted analysis of environmental and biosecurity risk associated with imports of biological materials, including agricultural products, animal and plant materials, foods, pharmaceuticals and traditional medicines, and guided industry, field quarantine staff and importers on operational and technical requirements for compliance with Australia’s standards.
