The NSW Community Alliance supports the work of the Sydney and Hunter Community Alliance through supervision, training, HR, legal, financial and governance.

Lead Organiser 2014-2023, Community Organiser 2010-2014The Sydney Alliance Lead Organiser brings together diverse community organisations, schools, unions and religious organisations to advance the common good and achieve a fair, just and sustainable city. We do this by providing opportunities for people to have a say in decisions that affect them, their families and everyone working and living in Sydney. The Sydney Alliance is a non-party political organisation.The work at the Sydney Alliance involves development of teams of volunteers and staff from over 52 diverse partner organisations. The organiser's role is to teach community organising theory and practice, principally by following the organising cycle:Activities:Relational meetings, listening campaigns, discernment, research-action meetings, planning, actions, media events, assemblies (with hundreds or thousands of people where politicians and corporate leaders are held accountable to commitments developed by the leadership).Evaluation and reflection. NUS NSW President 2008, NUS National President 2009The National President is the national spokesperson and peak lobbyist for the National Union of Students, representing over 900'000 students. Led nationally successful campaigns on the student services and amenities fee, changes to youth allowance for regional students, decreases in HECS fees for science and nursing students & for a suite of reforms of international student rights.This work was possible because of a broad and diverse coalition of organisations, sectors and institutions bringing together people across the traditional partisan lines.Proudest to stand with international students facing significant concerns regarding safety and exploitation. Skills & experience:Development and execution of a national media strategy, federal lobbying of all political parties and independent senators, negotiation of a diverse range of political voices within the union and the identification, recruitment and development of a 300 strong core team of education leaders.Presented at six industry conferences, five federal senate inquiries/parliamentary committees, Stakeholder development with Universities Australia and the National Tertiary Education Union.Establishment of relations with international counterparts in the US, New Zealand and India. Supported research team with submissions to inquiries and media response.Worked with teams to make successful three conferences each with over 300 participants (Ed Con 2009, Nat Con 2009, Re-Con 2010).Co-coordinated 2 national days of action and many on campus, local and state events. Chaired the national executive and subcommitteesCo-managed two staff, day to day office management. Managed and lead a team of nine office bearers.Grew the union by three campuses, seeded activist teams at five campuses. Closely supported the second year of the funded Indigenous department.Taught student organising and leadership.

Student Vice President (04-05) & President (05-06) of UTS Union (now ActivateUTS)Lead the UTS Union's No-VSU campaign after the introduction of 'Voluntary Student Unionism' in 2006.Brought over 50 diverse religious, sporting, cultural, activity and political clubs together to campaign against the legislative changes.Cross-party lobbying, participated in financial and staffing restructure, cultural change, full rebrand, chaired committees, relationship building with key partners, public speaking, written communication.Ran multiple successful tickets at large, multi-campus, multi-ethnic student elections at UTS involving public speaking, media, design, policy formulation, intercultural communication and demographic targeting.
