How might my friends and work colleagues describe me in three words or less?One answer might be, “Techie with Personality.”The Techie Part:I have built my career upon my two greatest interests: Science and Software Engineering(M.S., Meteorology, M.S., Computer Science, respectively).The Personality Part:I have succeeded in my career because of my people skills: high emotional IQ, strengths-first leadership, dry wit.Techie + Personality means I excel at the interface between customers and technology. I am comfortable working in non-technical and technical realms, and all points in between.As an engineering manager I have led teams that created system software underlying mission-critical applications in enterprise environments. The teams won awards for innovation, had dozens of patents approved, and developed close ties with major customers. As a project manager I worked with a nascent software development organization to design and institute their product development process. My background as a software engineer greatly influences my project management philosophy, hence my appreciation for Agile principles.As a meteorologist I provided forecasts for "planes, trains, and automobiles," media, utilities, and all of my neighbors. I trained operational meteorologists on the latest technologies. I even helped develop a climate model.My meteorology background uniquely complements my engineering skills. I approach decision-making and execution as a meteorologist would:● Understand the system to understand the context● Ascertain what is most important; focus on that● Account for complexity; prepare for the unexpected● Communicate effectively to minimize risk, maximize resultsMy Specialties include:● Meteorology, forecasting, climate change● Software engineering management, IT management● Project management● Certified ScrumMaster● CommunicationsI am always interested in making new connections.
