Hello, my name is David Whitlock, and I'm a pending mechanical engineer from West Monroe, LA. My work experience began during my senior year at West Monroe High School at Sonny Panzico's Garden Mart. I learned very quickly through long hours and hard labor that I have an aptitude for working with my hands. The next adventure was attending Louisiana Tech University, where I learned to perform high-level analytical problems, design new products, write detailed technical reports, and work with diverse teams to achieve a common goal. The greatest perk was learning the full capabilities of software only briefly studied in high school-level classes, such as Excel and SolidWorks. My love for engineering design quickly grew, which allowed me to find a temporary position after my sophomore year of college. During the Summer of 2022, I took on a project engineering internship at Graphic Packaging International where I used design, research, communication, and many other strategies to improve processes in the mill. Many of the responsibilities could be labeled as project management, which I did not find very interesting, but it was a great learning experience. Also, I had a chance to hone my SolidWorks skills even further by taking it upon myself to make a 3D model of the new system my mentor and I were proposing to install that would prevent the waste of thousands of gallons of useful chemicals each year.I completed the honors program at Louisiana Tech in 2024, learning multiple skills in problem-solving, CAD design, and Thermodynamics. The organizations in which I was involved were Habitat for Humanity (A community service group that hosts fundraisers for the betterment of the Ruston community), Pi Tau Sigma (A Mechanical Engineering Fraternity that is only open to those of the 1/4 of students in the major), and Tau Beta Pi (The 2nd oldest honor society in the world, which is dedicated to the top 1/8 of all engineering students in their Junior year). For the latter, I was the Professional Development Chair, responsible for speaking to alumni and those in the workforce to connect members to their preferred careers and aid in their ascension along that path. My current skillset is mostly in innovation and design as I have an advanced understanding of SolidWorks modeling and simulations and have grown fond of prototyping and testing new ideas and processes. I'm seeking a full-time career in design and manufacturing to use the skills I've learned or discover new ones to improve the lives of consumers.
