About David J. Hejl
Currently serving the community by connecting energy developers to land owners in the wind energy space for mutual benefit and renewable power supply, as a part-time substitute teacher, and as a school bus driver trainee. Money doesn't grow on trees, but here in the North Country, it certainly blows in the wind. Just started all three positions in rural upstate NY while still investing in real estate, and we might be hobby farming soon around our travels into Québec to try out our French language skills! As a real estate investor, I enjoy investigating potential investment projects, creatively acquiring properties, engaging private lenders, as well as maintaining properties & managing tenants, and then, exiting well with appropriate timing. While also assisting my wife's medical business, I expanded existing family real estate LLC from an initial single-unit rental property owner in Illinois to a multi-state portfolio of 17 units with varying financial structures, specializing in tax foreclosure deals with high returns. Our last private investment tax foreclosure project in Michigan returned 28.7%. Our current and past operation locations include northern CA, southern IL, MI (U.P. & downstate), central TX, and now upstate NY- the main focus. Besides my intense interest in real estate, I am also passionate about skydiving, fitness, and languages. I have been a tandem instructor and coach for over 10 years, introducing people to the thrill of jumping from 10,000 feet and teaching them how to do it safely and independently. I have also been a fitness and nutrition coordinator for a charter school and a hobby farmer for my own health and wellness. I have a bachelor's degree in foreign languages & systems engineering from West Point, and I am currently conversational in French and basic in Spanish. Fitness FarmerGaia Farming Enterprises, Llc Jan 2017 - Dec 2022My wife and I thought we were losing our connection to our food...so, we bought a 6-acre property (with not much on it) to do it ourselves! Our goal was to grow what we could, handle the harvesting ourselves, and take our health & fitness up a notch with nutrient-dense food. We have tried many things and have learned a lot. We started with some chickens, qualifying for an egg seller's license in Illinois, and a couple of donkeys, as guard animals, haha. We have bred, raised, and then filled our freezer with meat from chickens, turkeys, quail, rabbits, sheep, goats, and one cow. We have kept beehives, worked a 1,500+ square foot garden covered with wood chip mulch, and inoculated logs with medicinal/functional mushroom mycelium. We have performed as many tasks manually as possible (ask me about my scythe!), and melded workouts with chores (bodyweight squats & lunges are very useful postures for a lot of chores!). It has been a challenging experience! In addition, we used the website wwoofusa.org to find seasonal workers, trading room & board. This was a great idea as we have met and gained friendships with six people this way, two from overseas (Japan and Belgium). Now we are moving on to other things, but have grown immensely - physically, mentally, spiritually. We put our philosophy into practice while learning more philosophically from the animal, plant, and fungal kingdoms. We do encourage everyone to connect more with food and water, human’s first medicine, as Hippocrates stated a log time ago.

Our clients, surrounding county coroners or private individuals, request post-mortem examinations to determine cause and manner of death. I took this role initially as the best way to help our home business as it would be very difficult to find someone able to be available on an on-call basis. The experience has been very rewarding and educational for two reasons: 1) I am very honored to help provide this valuable service to the death investigation teams of the local and state law enforcement communities, as well as to help provide some answers for the families of the deceased; 2) My knowledge of human anatomy and physiology has greatly increased, which ultimately improves my fitness coaching clients.
