  I was a staff writer in the Sports Department from 1989-2016. My final week, I headed our coverage of the annual PGA event at Doral and broke a story on Florida International University's women's basketball coach trying to sleep with the captain. As staffs shrunk, my versatility was called upon more than ever. I've covered Super Bowl Week (while doing regular blog updates on National Signing Day that Wednesday), done columns and daily coverage on the Heat, Panthers, Dolphins, The Honda Classic and Doral. After a lifetime as a hockey fan, I spent 11 seasons covering the Florida Panthers and the National Hockey League. My lifelong fandom of auto racing -- I grew up a short drive/long walk from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- gets me called in to write auto racing columns. You name the sport, I've probably written on it with some enthusiasm. Including cricket. But not curling.I've also written several stories on crime, a companion to sports these days; and animation, specifically Warner Bros. animation.I've shot spot news photos good enough for section fronts and videos to go with my stories. That's why I was chosen to move to our Continuous News Desk as a Breaking News Reporter/General Assignment Reporter and, now, our Consumer Desk. And why the stories I post now have little to do with sports -- usually.
