CurrentI lead Grant Thornton's Restructuring Tax team and specialise in providing tax advice to distressed businesses or their stakeholders on all aspects of restructuring, refinancing or rescue transactions. I also provide pre and post insolvency tax advice in relation to formal insolvency appointments, as well as advising purchasers on the tax implications of acquiring businesses or assets in distressed scenarios, whether through consensual or non-consensual deals.As head of the Restructuring Tax team, I coordinate all UK and international taxes relating to distressed scenarios, including corporate, individual, VAT and customs duties, stamp taxes and employment taxes. This often involves negotiating with HM Revenue & Customs in relation to statutory and non-statutory clearances on distressed transactions or seeking agreements in respect of pre and post insolvency appointment tax claims. I have been advising distressed businesses, their owners, lenders and other stakeholders since 2003, but in particular from 2007 onwards I have worked on some high profile and ground breaking cases across a range of sectors.
