During the 2019 General Election I was Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Sutton Coldfield. I ran an energetic, inclusive and high-profile campaign against a well-known Conservative incumbent whilst supporting colleagues in marginal seats across the West Midlands. I finished second & won 12,233 votes, defying the national swing on a historically bad night for the party.

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the independent trade union for doctors in the UK representing doctors and medical students from all branches of medicine. As a Senior Public Affairs Advisor, I led on parliamentary and stakeholder engagement. My responsibilities included: providing specialist public affairs and stakeholder management input to support integrated campaigns and communication projects; leading and managing internal parliamentary bill and campaign teams; managing relationships between other trade unions in the health sector and politicians in the UK Parliament; and proactively identifying opportunities to promote and defend BMA policies in the external environment. Throughout 2016 I led on parliamentary and stakeholder engagement relating to the junior doctor contract dispute. In 2017 I led all public affairs activity for the BMA relating to NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plans.

Based in the constituency office of Labour MP Chris Evans in South Wales, I was initially employed as a Parliamentary Researcher before being promoted to the role of Senior Parliamentary Researcher in June 2012. My responsibilities included: drafting speeches, parliamentary questions, and briefing notes ahead of debates; managing all media activity liaising with print and broadcast journalists and writing press releases and briefing notes ahead of TV and radio appearances; and forming relationships with key stakeholders in the local party. Alongside this role I also worked as Campaign Manager for the Local Constituency Party, overseeing local, assembly and parliamentary elections. I was responsible for coordinating all campaign activities across 15 electoral wards and managed Islwyn Constituency Labour Party's local election campaign in 2012, culminating in Labour winning control of Caerphilly County Borough Council.
