Project Engineer

Glasgow, United Kingdom

After graduating with a MEng in Aero-Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde I undertook a four month placement with TUV NEL in order to study and produce an evaluation of the uncertainty in the multiphase facility.Within very tight time constraints I produced a comprehensive uncertainty budget for the facility which is still the foundation of the uncertainty measurements in the facility. To complete this project I had to define the relationship between all the inputs to the multiphase flow measurement, list the factors that contribute to the uncertainty in that input, estimate the magnitude of the uncertainty, estimate the effect that each input has on the measurement result, combine all the input uncertainties in the final result and finally express the overall uncertainty as an interval about the measured value within which the true value is expected to lie with the required level of confidence. I developed a robust, user-friendly Excel program that allowed users to update the uncertainty measurements in future due to replacement of the measurement equipment.

May 2008 - Sep 2008

Internship Project Engineer

Dunstable

Placement with the UK’s leading wind engineering consultancy company. Responsible for the calibration of a wide range of pressure probes used in the wind tunnel. These probes and the calibration factors that I calculated were subsequently used in a major project. Working closely with another project engineer I was responsible for assessing the galloping potential of a pair of towers in a petrochemical plant. My analysis was used in the final report to the client. I also gained extensive practical experience in the wind tunnel. I gained invaluable experience in terms of working as part of a dynamic team in various engineering disciplines.
