Millwrights rig, hoist, assemble, dismantle, align and adjust mechanical equipment, sometimes to tolerances of 1/1,000th of an inch. We work in many different industries, making sure assembly lines, gears, pumps, valves, compressors, generators, conveyors and power turbines of all sorts work smoothly and efficiently. We jokingly say we do the jobs no one else wants can do.In my time with the Millwrights I have worked mostly on gas and steam turbines with APM and Siemens, as well as at Nuclear plants. I have had my hands on most other types of plants including paper and gypsum mills, food processing, ethanol refineries and general machinery moving and installation. One thing the apprenticeship taught me is that with the variety of industry and machinery we work on I will still be learning for some time to come.
