David L. McGuffey is in private practice in Dalton, Georgia, serving individuals and families throughout north Georgia. David is the owner of the Elder Law Practice of David L. McGuffey. David limits his practice to Elder Law and Special Needs Law. This means he helps elders and their caregivers, as well as persons with disabilities. Much of his practice is devoted to helping elders find, get and pay for good long-term care. David is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. David attended Georgia State University (B.A., 1987; J.D., 1993). He is a member of: the the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and various other bar associations. He is a past-Chair of the State Bar of Georgia's Elder Law Section and is a past-chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Elder Law Section. He is a past-Chair of AAJ's Nursing Home Litigation Group, and holds memberships in other groups associated with elder advocacy such as the National Citizens' Coalition for Nursing Home Reform. David was a member of the Board of Directors of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys from 2012-2016. He is a former Board member of the National Elder Law Foundation, the Board of Governors of the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the Northwest Georgia Health Care Partnership and the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association.
