The Irish Cancer Society provides a free transport service to referred patients, identified as being in need by our hospital partners. We support patients through a volunteer delivered, door-to-door transport service (by 1,200 volunteer drivers across the country).Strategy, planning and coordinationIn my role I’m designing and developing a new community mentorship programme for our amazing volunteer drivers. The aim is to support the development and implementation of support and supervision programmes for all volunteer drivers. Along the way I will spot opportunities for volunteer recognition and engagement, looking for opportunities to grow the service.Analysis and reportingPart of my remit is to see how we can optimise administrative processes for the support and supervision of volunteers. Reporting, evaluation and continuous improvementFeedback is crucial! I’ll be collating my findings & delivering feedback on our annual volunteer survey. An important part of what I do is to monitor the volunteer mentorship programme, ensuring continuous service improvement and delivering extra supports where needed. Identifying opportunities for improvement while running the numbers is also an objective of my role.Stakeholder engagement and relationship buildingTeamwork makes the dreamwork! My intention is to build and maintain relationships with existing internal and external stakeholders, developing new relationships as required. To that end I’m always looking to build effective collaborative relationships across the Society that further our wider strategic objectives.Community AmbassadorIt's not all deskwork! As Community Ambassador I’m also responsible for representing the Irish Cancer Society’s Transport Service on the Driver side, making sure the Society is represented in a professional, informed and energetic manner in the community both in person and online.
