My specialty is in investigating geology for application in several fields of specialty. I have worked in the minerals, oil and gas, and geotechnical industries as well as state geological survey agencies. I began my career as a National Park Service ranger-naturalist, and later worked for nearly four decades as a professional geologist. I especially enjoy fieldwork, mapping, and solving geology-related problems. Another of my specialties is giving talks and leading educational tours for the general public.Specialties and interests: geologic mapping, geologic hazards, stratigraphy, geomorphology, modern and ancient depositional systems, Cretaceous marine invertebrate biostratigraphy, project management, scientific illustration, GIS map creation, outcrop-trench-core descriptions, drilling investigations, soil and rock sample descriptions, slope stability studies and retaining wall designs, and geotechnical site investigations, analyses, and technical reporting.
