David Piercey is the John F. Kennedy Endowed Professor and Accounting PhD Program Director in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he has previously served as the Accounting Department Chair. He earned his PhD in accounting from the University of Illinois, where he was a Deloitte Doctoral Fellow, as well as a B.S. and M.S. in accounting from Brigham Young University. Prior to his PhD, Dave worked in both public accounting as an auditor and in private industry as a controller. Dave's research interests are in auditing and financial accounting judgment and decision making. His research is published in premier accounting and management research journals, including The Accounting Review, Accounting Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. He is an Editor of Accounting, Organizations and Society, and a past Editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. His research has won several best paper awards from the American Accounting Association and the International Symposium on Audit Research, and he is regularly invited to present his research at other universities. His research has also appeared in the popular press dozens of times, including in The Wall Street Journal, the BBC, MSN.com, and Yahoo.com, as well as in comment letters to the SEC and the PCAOB. Dave is also a committed teacher at the Isenberg School of Management, where he has won the school's Outstanding Teacher Award and Teaching Excellence Award, in addition to Outstanding Researcher Awards. Dave and his wife Andrea are volunteers for Prader-Willi Syndrome and Kabuki Syndrome research initiatives.
