In an ideal world we wouldn't need gang intervention workers and we wouldn't have the constant fear of our young people being drawn into gangs, offending or sadly all too often becoming the innocent victims.When I joined Westminster, I quickly adopted the focus of my team in reducing the impact and involvement of Gang Activity across the borough in line with the Government Agenda of Ending Gang and Youth Violence. This was something I’ve always been passionate about and always will be as this could have easily been my journey had it not been for wise choices at pivotal points. Back in 2012 I recognised after a decade of working with young people on the margins that any young person who has significant exposure… is eligible to this lifestyle of Offending, Gang & Serious Youth Violence.Working with this team gives me the platform to be part of the change in tackling the causes of ‘Gang & Serious Youth Violence’ head on rather than merely treating the symptoms time and time again.

Roehampton & Putney Locality

PAYP Key-worker within the Roehampton Locality - YOT Sessional Worker across Wandsworth Borough.I work towards designing coordinating and facilitating initiatives to keep young people engaged in youth recreation, which prevents them from moving towards the margins of the community.I have worked within the Youth Service of Wandsworth Borough Council for 10 years and during this time I have built a range of productive relationships across the four clusters, through schemes and projects. I have strived to increase the take up of existing services by under-represented groups and developed new responses as necessary within the different roles I have held. These roles have included:- Lead Key Worker (NOF Connexions summer Programme) 2001 and 2002- P/T Youth Worker (Heathbrook, Kathering Lowe, and Devas.- P/T Youth Worker In Charge (Heathbrook 2002 and Devas 2004)- Acting Detached Development Worker (west area) Feb 2005 – July 2006- YOT Sessional Worker (RAP) July 2006 – 2010.- PAYP Key-Worker (East, South and West) 2003 – 2012. I have significant experience of detached work, street work and working with hard to reach/socially excluded young people around all the focal points in Wandsworth Area. I have covered the four clusters by working in the most problematic areas such as Patmore Est, Winstanley Est, Doddington Est, Henry Prince Est, Arndale area, Ashburton Est and the Alton Estate.My work with PAYP has given the borough greater leverage in targeting the top end of high-risk young people, resulting in co-operative links with the Support Workers from each cluster in relation to areas of common concern and as a small team, we have created a rapid response to issues in the area.
