In January of 2020, David pioneered a new initiative for Gray as Managing Director, establishing a company presence in Ireland to pursue European opportunities. As David works to build Gray’s European endeavors, his ability to serve not only as a technical and project expert, but also as a company ambassador, are key for strategic expansion and marketplace recognition of Gray for existing and new, future customers in the region. David spends his time primarily focused on developing the service platforms in addition to the infrastructure needed to support them.David is also responsible for leading our Pre-Construction team in developing systems and procedures for the creation of clear, concise, accurate, and professional estimates, schedules, and scopes of work for potential customers. David’s team works alongside the customer to assist in defining their project and bringing it to reality. No matter how this process begins, David’s team leads and guides the customer through the process to help drive out risk and provide line of sight to schedule and cost guidelines.

With more than 18 years of experience at Gray Construction, David Florence has served in several capacities within the organization including Director, Pre-construction, and Regional Manager. In his current role as Vice President, Pre-Construction Systems and Services, David oversees the refinement and development of all internal pre-construction systems and processes, as well as how Gray’s pre-construction services are delivered to customers. David’s expertise has been critical to several key projects such as Caterpillar in Winston-Salem, Caterpillar in Athens, Ga. and Kubota in Gainesville, Ga., among others. David has also been a driving force in developing Gray’s team members to create winning estimates and proposals.

Involved in the conceptual design, estimating, scheduling of potential projects. Involved in site selection services / activities. Managed projects ranging from $5MM to $70MM+ in scale and value.

Started a new office in the southwest to support a customer building program. Managed Project Managers as well as Business Development efforts. Oversaw multiple projects for automotive, manufacturing and food/beverage customers.

Co-started a new regional office in Birmingham, AL. Developed estimates and proposals for automotive and manufacturing opportunities. Supported many site selection activities throughout the southeast.
