- Lead an effort to develop a more efficient and robust tool that provides sporting event-based replays for testing and QA. Leveraged AWS components such as DynamoDB, Lambdas, S3 and SQS to more flexibly capture and later regenerate the event related data.- Worked on a long research project tasked with unifying several disparate identification systems across ESPN and it’s data providers. - Utilized a Graph Database (Janus) and query language (Gremlin) to create and maintain the relationships between the identifiable entities.- Used Apache Kafka, Kafka Streams and Kafka Connect to extract the desired entities and relationships from ESPN’s existing systems.- Participated in several cross-organizational meetings to discuss an overall ontology that would be used to describe and classify the sport-centric data sets.

- Complete re architecture of ESPN’s suite of Android fantasy applications into a single application (with the exception of Tournament Challenge).- Managed and led a team of developers to revamp the existing Tournament Challenge application.- Coordinated an effort (along with the iOS lead) to integrate subscription in-app billing into the flagship ESPN application. Helped to devise and track tasks across several internal and external organizations.- Implemented a set of API calls that would be used to enhance a user’s experience while watching video by supplementing the view with relevant content and statistics.

- Extended the League Manager platform to support Baseball, Basketball, Hockey and NASCAR. - Investigated and implemented several methods to make the platform more efficient both in terms of storage and performance. - Assumed responsibility for existing Android League Manager applications. This included fixing issues with the codebase as well as adding new features. - Developed the brand new native Android portion for League Manager’s next generation of mobile applications. - Architected an API layer on top of the core League Manager service to support the next generation of mobile applications as well as other clients and third party vendors.

- Coordinated the transition of the FanNation application from a small, self managed server environment to a large enterprise environment at Sports Illustrated. This included the migration of a MySQL database to Oracle. - Developed a real-time data feed for Golf.com providing them with leaderboard and statistical data. - Maintained all in-house development environments. - Analyzed performance of applications and made improvements via database changes, server configuration changes and aggressive caching techniques. - All work was done in Java and Ruby on Rails in a Linux environment. MySQL and Oracle databases were used.

- Led technical development efforts for a highly configurable, scalable and reliable League Manager platform upon which ESPN.com experienced a tremendous growth in overall users of it’s Fantasy Football offering. - Contributed on the functional level with innovative features such as draft pick trading and stronger enforcement of rules and transactions to help govern overall fair play. - Managed a team of five engineers, providing training, guidance on deliverables and technical expertise. - Enhanced and supported several legacy gaming applications. - All work was done in Java (using a proprietary application server). Microsoft SQL Server was also used.

- Responsible for addressing new functionality demands for a high performance, feature rich SSL Gateway as a component of the BIG-IP Load Balancing product. - Added client-side authentication and authorization based on X.509 certificates against an LDAP database. - Enhanced certificate status checks by implementing support for OCSP, CRLs and CRL Distribution Points. - All work was done in C (on BSDi) and utilized OpenSSL for it’s cryptographic functionality.

- Investigated ways in which the cache appliance could be tightly integrated with F5’s product suite in order to produce more robust and complete customer solutions. - Enhanced the base product with value add features including the ability to authenticate users based on local and remote databases (digest, NTLM, LDAP). - Earned Patent 7,640,347 (Method and system for inserting POST data into the GET request to apply normal caching rules). - All work was done in C/C++ (on Linux) and utilized the Inktomi Traffic Server SDK.

- One of three founding members of a team charged with delivering a product to manage sets of data (web content, etc.) across local and geographically distributed servers. - Architected a virtual file system to facilitate common access routines for archived, local and remote data sets. - Created libraries for transferring data to servers based on the FTP and WebDAV protocols. - Designed and implemented interfaces to interact with a local revision control system as well as methods for storing and representing changes to the data sets. - Earned Patent 6,405,219 (Method and system for automatically updating the version of a set of files stored on content servers). - All work was done in C++ (on Linux).

- Engineered kernel level routines to facilitate a tightly grouped set of networked file servers (commonly referred to as a Cluster File System) in order to achieve high levels of system performance and availability. - Supported the network communication subsystem that facilitated the distribution of data and messages throughout the file server cluster. - Enhanced the CFS infrastructure by making several performance and security related modifications. - Ensured both 64-bit compliance and the fulfillment of performance/acceptance criteria in the port of the original CFS code base to the DIGITAL UNIX platform. - Maintained code for both CFS and Network File Systems (NFS). - Created monitoring and debugging tools to help developers examine CFS activity.
