Established Labitat with two biology researchers on the team to serve the University of Tampere with laboratory animal husbandry services.We proposed to outsource the Laboratory Animal Centre to Labitat Oy by offering it as a service to UTA. This way UTA would save the large initial investment costs, get a reliable partner running the daily operations of the facility. Instead of putting effort on the operational aspect of the laboratory animals the UTA teams could focus on the high quality research they are best known of.The Labitat service offered was based on the highest industry standards in a cost efficient way, by bringing a world-wide used innovative caging system to Finland for the first time. This enabled us to reduce the initial investment level from the range of 2 million to a few hundred thousand euro, while maintaining the highest standard. Let alone the initial investment this enabled to significantly reduce the running costs as well.As the CEO of the company, I took responsibility of the business plan, securing financing, customer and supplier relationships. Raised the required funding of 300,000EUR from the banking sector, private funding and the Finnish state-owned financing company (Finnvera).

Delivering the next generation Lumia devices.

After moving back to Finland from Japan, continued leading the work of the R&D hardware teams to create new, challenging product concepts with innovative mechanisms.Started working on a product concept with the famous 41MPix camera module and took this project from concept creation to mass production as R&D Hardware Product Development Manager. This involved leading the technical development of the cross-functional hardware teams, requisite decision making, risk & error management, resourcing, budgeting and detailed project planning and control. The Nokia 808 PureView won the Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet category at the 2012 Mobile World Congress.I also led the R&D teams to develop the LTE enabled Nokia Lumia 635. Main challenge of this product program was to keep the several HW variants under the same hood, improving cost efficiency and manufacturing flexibility for the product family consisting of 7 HW variants. As some of these variants were designed at Nokia's Beijing site I also took the responsibility to ensure close cooperation between the teams. As an end result of the project we managed to limit the variant impact to minimal, reaching the challenging targets set for the team.

Was nominated to finalise the development work of the Nokia N93i as an R&D Product Development Manager. Beside the RF team I was responsible for the deliveries of the BB, UI, mechanics, electronics, electro-mechanics, proto and build teams as well. Through effective project management the team solved several showstopper issues and launched the product in according to plans. After a successful handover to In-Markets Team I moved to Concept Product Development Manager role where I led the R&D hardware teams responsible for defining and delivering the hardware of new product concepts.

Moved to Japan (on Expat contract) to set up a team of newcomers for the N93i camera phone as an RF team leader. Leading and coaching a team of 10 (mostly new recruits) delivered the product in time and quality for certification and mass production.Beside the program related activities I was actively driving the RF automated test system and laboratory setup related work. Was responsible for the RF investment budget, ordering, supplier contacts and laboratories. During the time I worked in Tokyo there was 9 new RF shield rooms built up (the first ones at the site) and 12 automated test systems added to capacity.During this time I also took the responsibility of the RF technical expert group, representing the Tokyo site in meetings and forums.

Worked as RF team leader in the Nokia In-Market Products program, responsible for devices already in mass production. I learned a lot about production environment, factories and manufacturing processes. Main tasks were to improve manufacturing failure rates, implement cost reductions and performance improvement. Assignments often went beyond own area of expertise and required versatile problem solving skills. I was also supporting other programs in the RF design, mostly in Tokyo where I worked on automated test systems, RF layout and verification for the Nokia 6600 and 7610 devices.Worked on RF parametric test system statistical analysis, driving the development of a SW that analysed large amount of data for Cpk to ensure robust design and good quality. I was responsible of the SW concept, the specification and verification of the functionalities. The code was developed under my supervision by external supplier.
