As access officer, we promote outreach to schools with low progression rates to university as well as in-reach work supporting current students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Working with King's College's schools liaisons officers, we visit schools in Middlesbrough providing students with an insight into university and what schemes are available to help them overcome obstacles to higher education. We also organise open days for prospective students and the bridging programme, helping incoming students integrate smoothly into college.

Contributed to computational projects exploring novel ways to understand scRNAseq data using large language models (LLMs). Working with datasets from mouse models of choroid plexus carcinoma, a rare paediatric brain tumour, I explored drug resistance mechanisms under the supervision of Dr. Amir Jassim. We also explored ways to simulate loss of gene function in silico and predict how this remodels the transcriptome. This taught me foundational skills in various Python packages, as well as how to effectively validate fast in silico results with more slowly obtained in vivo studies, enabling convincing scientific discoveries.

Established at the core of King's College, Cambridge, the King’s Entrepreneurship Lab is aimed at equipping students with entrepreneurial skills and supporting those wishing to explore a career path in innovation, entrepreneurship and business, with an emphasis on developing sustainable and ethical projects.This has enabled me to incubate a non-profit charitable e-commerce business aimed at supporting children's charities.

Seeking to foster constructive political discussion, I sought out this position as invites officer for King's Politics. Liaising with a huge range of figures such as philanthropists, lords and activists for political prisoners enables inspiring interviews to explore a range of impactful career paths and activities. This is particularly important for university students who have the opportunity to enter many high-impact disciplines and are seeking guidance for these important decisions.

Working with fellow co-presidents and committee members, we represent a diverse network of Cambridge medical students (clinical and preclinical), running events throughout the year to encourage and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This includes those looking to apply as well as students already here.

The role of access officer focuses around two main areas. The first is running access events for prospective students, working with Cambridge Widening Access to Medicine society. The second is helping current students from access backgrounds at Cambridge, both through advocating for them with faculty and possibly through running socials/events. Within this role, I therefore seek to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds both within Cambridge and across the UK.

MEDx is an independently organised TED-inspired event that aims to encourage collaborations through idea-focused talks given by extraordinary people in the MedTech sphere that have previously included, but not limited to Cambridge academics, entrepreneurs and clinicians. As MEDx lead, I am responsible for inviting speakers and organising engaging talks tailored towards our audience.We hosted a panel discussion with Eric Topol, Marzyeh Ghassemi, Marina Sirota and Rima Arnaout discussing the future of AI in medicine (https://youtu.be/RjT5_phD1iE?si=CfhzcdHGdk0Iwp3H).

As development officer, my responsibilities include organising training sessions for the development squad of boxers, requiring me to liaise between coaches and students. The cohort is broad with some seeking fitness, competitions and self defence. This requires me to meet a range of personal goals to ensure all club members have a great time. I am also involved in the development of the club as a whole.

As part of the King’s College Cambridge Summer Research Programme, I’ve worked at the Rowitch lab on a collaborative project between Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and Cancer Research UK. The project explored novel therapeutics for glioblastoma. I continued this project in my second year summer, consolidating skills and learning new ones as well as beginning a new project exploring novel MR-active and fluorescent contrast agents for imaging of glioblastoma.In deciphering their mechanism of action, I’ve developed core lab skills and procedures that I was exposed to during my first year of medicine at Cambridge. I’m grateful for the skilled scientists around me sharing their experiences.This project has helped me realise my appreciation for the basic sciences side of medicine, and inspires me to pursue further research project in the future in parallel to my role as a clinician.
