HGGT is a partnership of five councils delivering 23,000 new homes and accompanying physical, economic and community infrastructure, built around the existing Harlow New Town.As the Urban Design Officer, I sit across the many workstreams of the partnership, advocating for the highest levels of quality in line with our HGGT Vision. I help write, negotiate and deliver new guidance, steering it through the approvals process to become endorsed documents with planning weight. I also lead on internal masterplanning work, and have procured and cliented external studies, all whilst dealing with the complexities of local politics.

Public Practice is a social enterprise founded by the Greater London Authority to place built environment practitioners into public sector organisations in need of new skills and expertise, enhancing their capacity to improve the quality, equality and sustainability of places.As a Public Practice Associate, I was placed at Harlow and Gilston Garden Town. In addition to this placement, I took part in fortnightly R&D days where we learnt from guest speakers, our cohort, and site visits across the UK. I led a tour of Harlow and a day of lectures and finished the programme by giving a talk at the London Garden Museum on the work completed in HGGT over the year.

I joined Project Orange directly after graduating from the London School of Architecture. Primarily, I worked in Thamesmead on projects for Peabody, along with a series of housing projects, hotels and competitions worldwide.My main project was the Moorings Sociable Club, which started as a feasibility study in 2017, as part of a bid for ‘Good Growth Fund’ support form the Mayor of London. £1.15m was awarded to part-fund the full redevelopment which opened in March ‘22. The existing, derelict, Brutalist social club was rescued and refurbished to become the heart of the Moorings estate once more. The project aimed to be an exemplar of co-design, engaging local residents from day one - with the local community considered a client. I began on the projects as a Part II assistant, working my way up to Project Architect at the start of 2020 - leading the redevelopment, delivering the tender package and engaging in the co-design process through workshops at local schools, drop in sessions and community forum events.

Tutoring as part of the Radical Practices Studio, run by Dark Matter Labs:"Radical Practices Studio (RPS) will aim to support students in scoping the future fields of design investigation and action by exposing them to the new ‘site’ of design - the full stack of factors that make up our design ecosystem. We argue we need a ‘boring revolution’– a revolution that understands how our invisible methods of production (regulation, contracts, data sensing, finance and accounting for multiple outcomes...) cannot be separated from the everyday practice of architecture. Instead, they must be rewoven into how we design our physical environment."
