Hello! My name is Dawn Hernandez, and I am a licensed attorney and trained mediator in the state of Iowa. I have a passion for public service, peace-making, increasing access to the justice system, and immigration issues as demonstrated by my background in Human Services and the many volunteer opportunities I have been fortunate to participate in. I am also interested in government, as demonstrated by my work at the State, County, and City levels. My personal strengths include conflict resolution, team building, networking, empathy, integrity, goal setting, time management, and professional writing.I have recently opened my own solo-practice law firm, and my professional goal is to grow in experience as an immigration attorney and mediator. I am fully bi-literate (English/Spanish) and have a unique perspective of our immigration system. I have gained this perspective by working with immigrants in the United States and experiencing life as an immigrant when living abroad. I believe that my personal experiences with immigrants and our immigration legal system, along with my strengths and bilingual abilities, will allow me to use my legal education and experience to have a lasting impact on the lives of immigrants and other disadvantaged community members in Iowa.
