I like to take things apart and then make them better. Processes are fluid, ever changing and in the Human Services field, it is what makes things interesting. You have to constantly review, update and tweak. When taking over the maintenance and transportation departments at The Arc NCR, I carefully looked at what was in place and analysed the problem areas. Over the past 5 years we have worked hard to put systems in place. Most recently I have been working with Supported Employment program in creating a training program for people with disabilities on work contracts. I have created work skill building blocks for them to learn and take with them on independent work opportunities. Restructuring contracts, job development for staff and leadership training has made a big difference on how this program succeeds. For all my departments, we have built SOP's and manuals from the ground up. Accountability being a key building block. PM programs have been put in place, decreasing costs. Efficiency and restructuring routing decreased over time. Thinking outside normal funding lead us to using grants to offset our operations budget. It has been very interesting and extremely gratifying working with individuals with differing abilities. I see the direct impact my job has on this population. People are able to find employment, interact with their community and live as independently as possible due to the work done at The Arc NCR. To know the work you do make a difference in a person's life, is a powerful motivator.

Learning about DDA and the world of differing abilities was completely new to me. Working with the CEO I was able to gain insight into the lives of people with differing abilities. This included day to day items like individual rights, Arc philosophy, licensing, quality assurance, board interaction, as well as strategic planning with lobby groups and our board of directors.

Taos, Nm

El Monte Sagrado is one of the beautiful boutique hotels in the Kessler Collection and in 2013 we branded with Marriott in their Autograph Series. It was a pleasure working in Taos, NM. I was recruited to start up the Human Resource office. All HR Generalist duties and payroll were done through my department. It was a great project to get all HR systems in place and learn about a new area of the United States. Coming from the East Coast and most recently from Ireland, it was a challenge to learn and work within a new diverse environment. Working with a corporate office in Florida put me in an interesting place of East Meets West and meshing different priorities. Over my three years in Taos, I worked on strategic planning, systems and SOP's, networking with the community, as well as stepping in as interim General Manager when needed. The things I learned during my time there, both culturally and about business, was staggering. Taos, NM is an amazing place and it was a true pleasure experiencing this Land of Enchantment.
