Looking back on my education and work experience, I now see I was destined to become a pharmacist. Chemistry, biology and related natural/health science classes are fun and interesting. I like to help people and care about their well-being. Then, just before graduating high school, an interest inventory quiz “pegged” me as a pharmacist (but I headed off to college to pursue chemical engineering). Though I’ve had some interesting opportunities, such as a haul truck driver for an open pit coal mine and a quality assurance chemist at a corn milling facility, now I cannot imagine doing anything else except being a pharmacist.Helping patients understand their medications and working towards positive health outcomes are values I highly believe in. Whether it is developing and implementing an immunization program, delivering medications to a patient’s home at the end of my day, or collaborating with a hospice nurse to help make a patient more comfortable towards the end of life, I am fulfilling my mission every day.
