Established in 1935 by the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, St. Joseph's represents a unique public private model which provides the bridge between the provincial hospital, the home and the community as a whole. Children with ages ranging from birth to 18 are referred to St. Joseph's from state hospitals such as the Red Cross Children's Hospital, Tygerberg, Groote Schuur and local Community Health Centres. The children who are relegated to St. Joseph's come from impoverished homes and communities in South Africa and suffer from life threatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, respiratory, heart-lung-kidney failures and congenital abnormalities. The home serves the needs of up to 145 medically fragile and disabled children, who require ongoing nursing and rehabilitative care. St. Joseph's provides a holistic healing approach to minimize the likelihood of relapse.

We seek out owner-run companies who have reached a key inflection point, a point where things need to change if the business is to continue growing (or stop declining). We then join the business owner as their executive team, and for a concerted period help him/her refocus the business strategy, and then align the organization culture, structures, processes and systems so that the business thrives. Not only do we get our hands dirty, but we also aim to take an equity stake in these businesses to highlight our long-term commitment and involvement. Once the business is performing effectively, we hand over our operational roles to the right people, and then focus on providing ongoing, high-impact executive support to the CEO and management team. For a business owner/CEO, this means having an executive team of ‘peers’ who will not only get actively involved in solving specific business challenges, but who will stay on for the long term to provide the executive support needed to make the right decisions when it matters most.
