Breaking into the tech sector can be difficult. Here's a few reasons why you should consider hiring me even though I’m 'new' to the industry:- 20 years in the education sector. Many of them at top schools in the private sector where hard-work and professionalism were a constant expectation.- I honed my leadership skills in the unforgiving special education field. I led a department of 32 staff for four years and many of the changes I implemented were voluntarily adopted at other schools.- Awesome education. I earned a master’s in Data Science at the incredible University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign after taking classes on my own from the University of Michigan and John Hopkins University to prep for the grad program.- Data skills! Machine learning, model building, neural networks, data cleaning, visualizations, and more! I have a lot of exposure and education in many of the tools of our industry.- Learning is a skill that I have kept sharp. One of the constants in the tech industry is that you will have to learn something new. Guaranteed. Our grad program made sure that we were exposed to a variety of languages and tools. While much of our time was spent in Python, we also used R and Java as well as several visualization tools such as Tableau and D3. Frequently, we were given a new tool or language and a limited amount of time in which to learn the tool and produce a project. Those long weekends furthered my ability to quickly learn something new under pressure.- Life-long geek.
