I serve on a Disaster Survivor Assistance Team at different federally declared disasters around the county. While in the field, I am responsible for training new specialists, assisting with IT issues, and providing leadership responsibilities when my supervisor is unavailable. At past disasters, I have served a Crew Lead, most recently in Puerto Rico during the Hurricane Maria recovery. I trained my team in DSA protocols and procedures, and helped to coordinate our outreach efforts with the survivors with other FEMA assets and teams. I have currently served in seven different disasters, most notably, the recovery efforts following Hurricanes Matthew, Harvey, Maria and Florence. I filled various leadership roles including Crew Lead, Field Lead, Specialist, and Strike Team Lead. I have coordinated or assisted with multiple events involving local and state partners, as well as private sector leaders, tribal officials and local stakeholders.
