Designed and directed an operation to maintain the demanding landscaping and sanitation needs of the ¾ mile urban streetscape.
Co-Founder And Principal Organizer
The Everything Jersey City Festival was one of New Jersey’s largest main street events taking place the third Saturday each May within the Central Avenue business district in Jersey City. The family friendly event was ten blocks long and provided music and art entertainment, attractions for families and children, displayed many local vendors, and promoted "one day" sales on behalf of participating local businesses. The 2012 festival had an estimated 37,000 visitors in attendance. To local residents and visitors, a festival is a fun way to spend a day celebrating their community with family and friends. But for the business district, festivals and other creative placemaking events present a unique opportunity to showcase the rich cultural and economic life of the main street. By bringing thousands - even tens of thousands - of people to Central Avenue for a festival, local businesses had opportunity to put their best face forward, meet the new faces in the crowd, and bring those same people back as regular customers throughout the year.As the Co-Founder and Principal Organizer of the event, I served at key positions on the festival committee over the years. As Chairman of the EJCF Planning Committee I helped structure the festival format accounting for detail aspects of the event such as recruiting (i.e. local business participation, exhibitors, artist, entertainment, children activities, etc); coordination of staff, volunteers, municipal resources and over 30 performances annually; exhibitor layout; public safety; created parking and transportation solutions; and provided a program to address sanitation concerns during and after the event. As Chairman of the EJCF Finance Committee, I helped raise well over $550,000 in combined cash and in-kind sponsorships for the event over a five year period. I helped craft a successful sponsorship package that forged long term partnerships between the sponsors and Central Avenue’s small business community.
