Dean Cooper has worked for over 30 years in the international clean energy sector, including energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency. He has had a focus on developing countries, particularly in Africa, where he previously lived for 10 years.His career has involved working for national government and international agencies, and managing his own international business. He has an excellent understanding of the need for public and private sector co-operation to achieve sustainable approaches that address local, national and global energy issues. He has focused on practical business solutions to meet the needs of end-users currently without access to appropriate energy options.Dean has particular experience with the preparation of practical mechanisms to attract the interest of potential investors, especially in unfamiliar markets. This includes a good understanding of the policy/regulation requirements, matching appropriate technology to local resources, deciding which financial mechanisms will be most relevant, and working with local people to build local market demand and ownership. His key skills include strategic planning; management of public and private sector international partners; co-ordination of practical operations; promotion of energy development activities; capacity building; monitoring & evaluation.
