Dean commenced initially as a strategic advisor to the company in 2013 and was subsequently appointed Chief Executive in October 2014.Dean has over-seen, in conjunction with the leadership team, a significant transformation of the company, including:- the development of a strategic 2020 plan- a substantial reduction in net working capital through improved inventory management and accountability- an improvement in risk measurement and understanding- the sale or wind-down of over $80m of non-core assets- the closure of 7 of the company's 21 plants, and 2 European sales offices- the introduction of $260m in new equity through a global capital raising process- the continued expansion of the company's value-added strategy, with branded FMCG launches in Germany and the USA, and strong growth in branded product sales to food service customers in China- an organisational and leadership team restructuring (including the disaggregation of roles, and the creation of new roles) - CFO, GM Sales, GM Marketing, GM People, GM Operations, GM Supply Chain, GM Food Quality, Environment & Assurance, and Enterprise Program Manager - the establishment of and investment in a sustainability framework and function- ongoing investment and improvement in health, safety and wellbeing outcomes- increased levels of staff engagementIn the 2018 Colmar Brunton Corporate Reputation Survey (which measures consumer perceptions of a firm’s social responsibility, fairness, success and trust in it), Silver Fern Farms was voted the 12th most trusted firm in New Zealand, an improvement from outside the top 20.Dean announced his resignation in 2017 and finished in March 2018

Dean established Hamilton & Co as an independent corporate advisory firm upon his return to New Zealand from Melbourne.Hamilton & Co provided independent board, M&A and capital markets advice.One of Hamilton & Co's clients was Silver Fern Farms. On being appointed CEO in November 2014, Hamilton & Co was put into hibernation

Dean commenced with Deutsche Bank in Auckland New Zealand, as a Director in Investment Banking. Held a variety of roles including head of Equity Capital Markets, and head of Coverage for manufacturing, gaming, building products and paper & packaging sectors and advised on products across M&A, IPO, secondary equity offerings and debt capital markets.Dean moved to Melbourne in 2006 as Managing Director and co-head of Melbourne investment banking. Most recent role was as co-head of Industrials and Private Equity coverage for Australasia. Sectors covered included chemicals, logistics, gaming, building products, construction materials, paper & packaging, agriculture and both local and global private equity firms.
