As the Manager of the Sander department, I have the following responsibilities:• Production of the boards as well as the efficiency of the production line. • The planned maintenance of the machines under my department.• Planning for the year end shutdown and mayor maintenance e.g., arranging contractors. and spares from Germany and U.S, A. Planning hours of skilled labor and budgets for said maintenances.• Daily management of the work force in the department. Ever one from unskilled general workers to skilled artisans. • Setting up processes to handle breakdowns and minimize the response time and lost production time. • Doing lead time assessments on critical spares and only sourcing that which is required.• Warehouse control and management. • Stock control and management.• Consumable’s control and assessment of consumables to pick up on potential. breakdowns on the production line. • Quality control. • Going to clients if any complaints were received. • Part of the safety committee. • Senior Mechanical standby for the entire factory and doing Electrical standby if required. • Executing protect and upgrades for the systems under my supervision e.g., streamlining warehouse functions and improving machines for better production. • I do the formal hearings and counseling of personnel that do not comply with company policies.

As the millwright, I have the following responsibilities:• Managing unplanned breakdowns.• Repairs during scheduled and unscheduled shuts.• Work daily on high- and low-pressure water systems from the plc control to the pipeline and everything in-between. • Maintenance of machinery.• Training and developing shift apprentices.• Issuing of job cards, permits and safety documents.• Basic understanding of PLC systems.• Fault finding, installing and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.• Understanding of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and rigging.• Fault finding on network systems and communication.• Safety representative. As the safety representative on shift, I am responsible for ensuring that electrical safety procedures are followed. I am also responsible for checking equipment such as DB boxes, fire extinguishers and electrical cables. My other responsibilities in this regard include MCC safety, electrical safety drills and contingency planning.• First Aid shift response. Since employees operate heavy machinery and the real threat of fires, a medical emergency can occur at any moment and it is my responsibility to respond to those immediately and manage these situations. Besides administering basic first aid, when necessary, I have to use my discretion in serious situations to call for medical backup.• Fire response. The plant manufactures chip board and the resulting saw dust poses a real fire threat. I am responsible for managing any fire hazard and emergencies.• Inspector. I have routine inspections of high hazard zones and of electrical systems in and around the plant.
