Originally hired as part of an implementation team to for the roll-out of in enterprise project management system for use by test engineers at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground. This included formal classroom training of approximately 160 system users, providing on-going training and support after the formal training, developing and delivering training materials for use during and after the implementation phase (which was scheduled to last 18 months). Also responsible for troubleshooting issues with the system (which was still being developed during the rollout).At the end of the implementation the customer requested that myself and another member of the team be retained to continue to support the system and it’s users. In addition to the original duties and responsibilities,

Write and edit a variety of materials (feature articles, technical material, business-related articles, etc). Covered news events and governmental/legislative issues. Collaborated in the editing of two major book projects for Glencoe/McGraw-Hill: Marketing Essentials and The World of Work. Provide photography to a variety of publications, and organizations, including Westways Magazine, and California Fly Fisher. Also plan, produce, market, and teach photography workshops.

Ensured superior client service and the proper maintenance of the life’s work of one of the most influential photographers of the late twentieth century, Galen Rowell, and guided the business through turbulent times following his death in an airplane crash. Formulated innovative marketing strategies to attract new business and increase client retention. Implemented internal tracking systems providing real time responses to income fluctuations and other significant business activities. Converted the image collection from primarily analog (film) to a keyword-searchable online database of digital images (http://www.mlstock.com/) . Designed and implemented a digital workflow to ensure the efficient scanning, captioning, keywording, and cataloging thousands of pictures.Selected software vendors for the necessary migration to digital asset management and business tracking systems, and negotiated with internet service providers and other vendors and service providers.Directed the expansion of the agency by adding the work of other accomplished photographers. Identified suitable candidates, negotiated terms and conditions, coordinated the delivery of electronic files that met high quality standards, both in terms of image quality, file size and format, and embedded metadata. Also served as part of a team charged with planning, producing, and providing instructional support in a program of well-respected and financially successful photography workshops taught by some of the best contemporary landscape and travel photographers, including David Muench, Jack Dykinga, John Shaw, and Frans Lanting.

Developed adult training programs through distance education, residence courses, and in extension classes. These programs were successful at making complex information understandable and accessible to adults with a wide range of learning styles.Managed a large editorial staff and budget (in excess of $1 million), and established guidelines and templates that other writers could use to give editorial products an effective house “voice” and style that kept the material pertinent, engaging, and effective. Created a photography section within the department and charged it with the task of creating or finding images that supplemented the text, thus making the material even more accessible. Also developed and produced newsletters and other promotional material, and served as editor of a quarterly magazine for the Institute’s students and alumni. Represented the institute at industry and community events, and answered media queries concerning the institute.
