I conducted ongoing hiring, training and supervision a team of over 40 paid and volunteer staff for a youth and family education program serving up about 300 families, improving the quality, effectiveness and stability of the program. Writing procedural/training manuals, web content, board reports, program proposals, and educational curriculum, increased communication flow, continuity, teacher expertise and support, and up-leveled overall volunteer and staff preparedness. In addition, I initiated, designed and implemented new volunteer, staff and parent workshops that served the entire community. Coordinating family and teen camps, new program development, special events and fundraisers, collaborating with leaders and committees, I developed further expertise in event planning, facilitating teamwork and logistical support. Responsibility for managing department and scholarship budgets, including purchasing equipment and supplies, evaluating and administering scholarship applications and awards, tracking and analyzing weekly statistics, all increased analytical and decision-making skills. Also, I researched, purchased, set up and implemented new registration and child/volunteer check-in system on multiple networked computers, saving money, increasing child safety and providing simpler scheduling and statistical attendance data for growth goals.

Running my own educational consulting business, I had the opportunity to facilitate workshops for diverse populations in communication, conflict resolution, visioning, goal-setting, planning, creative problem-solving, accelerated learning, parenting and customer service. I wrote procedural/training manuals, flyers, brochures, newsletters and curriculum for businesses, schools and not-for-profits. In one contract, I helped to increase business to business sales volume for an educational supply store by 20% through customizing book collections, negotiating with school districts and conducting high volume book fairs for their classroom and school libraries. This experience grew my marketing, sales and negotiation skills. In the context of the consulting business, I also interviewed, assessed and coached private clients in life and career transitions.

In this position, I leveraged my previous 12 years of K-12 public school teaching experience, leadership and organizational skills to manage a start-up franchise, providing accelerated brain-based enrichment education for children. I directed all aspects of the new business, including: hiring, training, coaching and supervising teaching and administrative staff; marketing and sales, growing the program by 25% annually and bringing it to break-even and early profitability in 2 years. Unfortunately the recession hit us hard and the owner was forced to close the business. In addition I managed center operations including: billing, purchasing, communications, accounting and human resources.
