School Bus Safety Education Project for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Development of a school bus safety toolkit with content designed for children, young adults, parents, teachers & caregivers.

Lead a variety of training and education programs for parents, caregivers and individuals who directly interact with caregivers to learn proper installation and use of car seats. (Suspended in 2020 due to COVID)

Served as a resource to medical team by providing childhood injury prevention education and safety device distribution to patients and staff. Designed curriculum to administer classroom presentations and wellness fairs in elementary schools. • Developed a school outreach program using social media designed to connect 9 school districts in the Kalamazoo Regional Education. • Developed car seat discharge program for children with special healthcare needs.• Directed video production for child passenger safety education for newborn discharges.• Initiated and led planning of a 5 K Run and Walk fundraiser that resulted in $150,000 to support Bronson Children’s Hospital.

Collaborated with diverse groups and individuals to build an effective community wide injury prevention network and maintain a public presence. Liaised with Safe Kids Worldwide, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to ensure best practice recommendations for child passenger safety and injury prevention programs. Communicated with local, state, and national government to initiate public policy changes. Identified funding opportunities through private, state and federal sources. Prepared and managed program grants. • Compiled, analyzed and interpreted statistical data relating to local injury and mortality to support and justify initiatives. Trends in injuries & deaths related to unsafe infant sleeping environments, over the counter medications, various sports, etc.• Established strategic action plans to guide member activity. • Collected, organized, and distributed car/road safety, home safety, sports and play information to groups and organizations. • Coordinated with local media to disseminate information to the community regarding dangers of button batteries, furniture tip overs, distracted walking, heatstroke awareness and prevention, vehicle frontovers and backovers, etc. • Composed and distributed annual report highlighting activity of members, program partners and volunteers.• Maintained coalition website and Facebook page. • Effectively handled multiple priorities. Such as event logistics, grant development & management, volunteer recruitment, social media, supply management.

Provided leadership to local and regional injury prevention coalitions and chapters in southwest Michigan region. • Worked to build community support, sought funding through private, state and federal sources.• Provided training in program development, media relations, data collection, grant writing, strategic planning and public policy awareness. Managed MI Department of Community Health community partnership grants. Measured program outcomes.
