About Deb Jordan

I have a passion for making a difference in what I do and with the people with whom I work. I believe in the power of the parks and recreation profession and the many positive impacts it has on all people. In my efforts to help others make a difference in the work they do, I teach and write about the things that matter - leadership; diversity, equity, and inclusion; program evaluation; group dynamics and communication skills; and ethics. Active, engaged, and experiential learning is the foundation for all trainings and workshops I conduct; serious fun is a must.I am fortunate to be able to work with people across the country with staff training and personal development workshops. Many of these efforts relate to leadership development and issues surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Because of my interests in outdoor recreation, I have worked with a variety of communities in creating park and site-specific master plans. I have also worked with a range of agencies and organizations in creating, implementing, and utilizing program-wide evaluation processes. I am deeply connected with the American Camp Association and the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association. Currently, I am conducting research with Camp Corral, a nonprofit organization that runs camps for children of injured, ill, and fallen service members.I have written two textbooks: Leadership in Leisure Services: Making a Difference, 4th edition (2017). Sagamore/Venture Publishing; Programming in Parks and Recreation: A Servant Leadership Approach, 4th edition (2019). Sagamore/Venture Publishing. In addition, I am an author of over 100 book chapters and journal articles and have conducted over 150 presentations and trainings across the country and abroad.
