At the front line are Technical Officers/Weather Observers that are located throughout remote and metropolitan Australia and Antarctica. I collected various scientific data relating to weather. This involved 12-hour shifts on a rotating 24/7-shift work roster. I conducted tests and observations routinely and in times of inclement weather up to every few minutes. The information was then sent to the region’s head office for forecasters to analyse and distribute to stakeholders such as the aviation industry and emergency services.• Undertook various meteorological tests and observations including:- Surface observations including cloud cover, visibility and rainfall intensity.- Upper air observations including 100, 350 and 500g balloon flights.- Ozone observations using a Dobson Spectrophotometer.- Radionuclide monitoring checks using ARPANSA sampling equipment.• Recording general data and information relating to the quality control of observations.• Completing instrument and equipment maintenance, tests and calibrations, including UHF radio checks, HOGEN and water treatment plant checks.• Liaising with the Duty Forecaster and preparing weather information for the NT News. -

The community is on the Gunbarrel Highway, a tourist route from Warburton to Yulara, so I also conducted station tours for groups up to approximately 30 people of various ages. -
