The project targets novel nanophotonic strategies and light-emitting materials to improve next-generation solid-state lighting in a collaborative project (Resonant Nanophotonics Group at AMOLF, Surface Photonics group at TU/e and researchers from the leading LED-company Lumileds) to tackle fundamental challenges encountered in the quest for very high brightness white LEDs (with Prof. Dr. Femius Koenderink, Prof. Dr. Jaime Gomez Rivas as co-supervisor).

I was involved in two separate projects. The main project consists of developing novel space technologies for beam steering on compact optical breadboards(ZERODUR) for the European Space Agency. The optical breadboard passed the thermal fluctuations test (constant and ramping - 10K/hr) with a coupling efficiency of 94.5% (RMS<0.3%). The other one consists of developing a novel ultra-sensitive cavity-based microscopy method to image minimum spatial variations in the refractive index. I developed the initial cavity theory and simulated imaging system (in ZEMAX) for the experiment setup (with Dr. Wolf von Klitzing).

I have explored the spin-orbit interaction of tightly focused light beams in optical tweezers using angular spectrum representation, designed with a stratified medium in the path of the trapping beam. We demonstrated trapping of mesoscopic particles in multiple axial planes in an optical trap by varying the refractive index of the coverslip that is part of the sample chamber placed in the path of the trapping beam akin to holographic tweezers. We observe for the first time effects of the elusive Belinfante spin in classical wave optics. These effects manifest in the circular motion of single trapped birefringent particles on the application of circularly polarized light in a stratified medium in the path of the optical tweezers system that we employ to observe the effects. Thus, we observe that the particle reverses its circular trajectory as the handedness of the input beam is reversed (with Prof. Nirmalya Ghosh and Prof. Ayan Banerjee).

Constructed a compact slave laser by exploring the beam steering properties of wedge prisms instead of mirror mounts and achieved coupling efficiency of 75% (up to 78%) in both the transmission and injection arms simultaneously. Also, I developed new prototype designs for better stability from the experience gained (with Dr. Wolf von Klitzing).

Developed algorithm for quantification of scratches on electronic gadgets (mobile/tablet screens) for automated machines as an easy exchange point for old gadgets placed in public places. In collaboration with an O2O startup company HyperXchange.

Developed a numerical code to solve the Time-Dependent Schrodinger Equation in any potential and also a random generator for any given probability distribution function. In this work, we considered a particle in a harmonic oscillator potential as a dynamical system and obtained the Poincare ́ observations. In this work, we ask: What will the distribution of the observed values be if we make repeated observations on a single system? Here, our observable is the position of a particle under harmonic oscillator potential. We find that the observations are distributed as a Gaussian function with mean zero and standard deviation that varies over a very small range depending on the frequency of observation (with Prof. Soumitro Banerjee).

Singapore

Developed a software framework based on LabVIEW to automatically tune various physical parameters such as temperature and current for laser stabilization. I used state-of-the-art FPGA (Red Pitaya) to design the system (with Prof. Kai Dieckmann).

Studied various techniques for ghost imaging namely lens less thermal ghost imaging, differential ghost imaging, and multi-wavelength ghost imaging. The benefits of the various ghost-imaging methods in different situations were also studied extensively (with Prof. Hema Ramachandran).

Analyzed the behavior of transport of quantum particles in interaction with the various potential environments and to develop a generalized form for Transmission through N Identical Barriers using Transfer Matrix Method (with Prof. Joydeep Bhattacharjee).
