I am not currently seeking another position. This is not to say anything as an absolute, but I am happy where I am.I have extensive software testing experience starting prior to college and continuing during college. This experience has been invaluable to me as it provides insight into how systems break and enables me to avoid many pitfalls in my own work. I then worked as a .Net developer on a team building a windows forms application, followed by a couple of years as a Sys Admin. In addition to the data stores, I create and maintain data marts for high speed, application specific reads.As an extension of my traditional DBA duties I am getting back to my programming roots. I am a developer member of the team implementing the middleware framework, which abstracts data access from data storage, and the public facing API/Webservice infrastructure. ODATA is employed for read/write interfaces, and for super fast read only capability we are employing Couchbase as our document store.

My specific focus was on the Marine Operations and Equipment Management. We were building a replacement for an outdated system written in Clipper, so response times and process flow were critical considerations. I was also frequently tapped to manually shuffle shipping containers from one state to another in the database as issues were encountered and backend changes were necessary for the ships to launch on time (we called Port of Richmond, Port of Chester, Port of Liverpool, and Port of Antwerp). These were high-stress situations with small margins of error, and were my introduction to direct database manipulation. -
Software Tester3G International, Rsa Security, Maximus May 2000 - Aug 2003Before and while I was in college I interned with 3GI as a software tester. 3GI then split, with the Services division being acquired by Maximus, and the remainder was later purchased by RSA Security. I worked for 3GI, then remained after the purchase by RSA, and after the Williamsburg location was closed I went and worked for Maximus. My job was to fully test smartcard security software. I include this because testing builds a mindset. You think not only in terms of what needs to get done but what can happen along the way to cause problems. If you test software and processes, you learn to think of things that break software and processes, and, therefore, build better ones.
