This position leads a pivotal function within the organization managing, recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers who support the programs and services of the agency; managing the Holiday Gift program; managing in kind donation collection and distribution; managing speakers, tours and fairs; overseeing intern acquisition for the agency and placements in the advancement office; cultivating corporate donors; raising funds to support the agency; and representing the agency in community activities.

· Directed over 70 hospital-based volunteer programs including training, evaluation, recognition and retention of 1,500 volunteers following JCAHO requirements. · Developed and executed an effective business plan for the opening of a new volunteer program in the M. D. Anderson Ambulatory Clinical Building. · Instrumental in establishing the five-year strategic plan and goals for Volunteer Services. · Developed the breast cancer survivor program with the Nellie B. Connally Breast Center, used as a model volunteer program for other clinics and hospitals. · Developed and implemented WAGS (Welcoming Animals to Give Support), an animal- assisted therapy program. · Created and established a program evaluation process that measured the effectiveness of volunteer programs. · Responded to current trends in volunteerism by developing episodic volunteer opportunities for corporate and other community groups. · Established the outpatient volunteer advocacy program to increase volunteer presence and opportunities in clinical specialty areas. · Managed staff of nine full-time volunteer coordinators; conducted annual performance evaluations; provided coaching and motivation to achieve mission and vision of hospital. · Responsible for proposals and budgets of $500K.

· Assessed inpatient's daily psychosocial needs and established short- and long-term goals with pediatric patients and their families during their hospital stay and through rehabilitation. · Developed behavior-management techniques to assist patients with medical compliance though education, counseling and developmentally-appropriate modalities.
