I have always been passionate about art and design believing an affinity exists between them. As designer for my company Tradition Textiles, I create surface print designs to develop collections of scarf and fabric prints utilising my skills in graphic design, and also my visual arts background where I specialised in photography and print making. My career in design has been as both an educator and researcher. My research sparked by my continuing collaboration with textile artisans in India where I live and work with my husband for around three months each year producing our collections of textiles.In early 2023 I completed a PhD, the research focus on co-designing with textile artisan communities in India. The research projects were an extension of our textile business values of establishing bridges between cultures and people, and integrating sustainability and profitability. The skills, time and patience shown by the artisans in making handmade textiles needs to be recognised, their products valued as luxury items. I am happy to share my design expertise and experience of working with textile artisan communities in India. I’m available to speak at conferences and webinars, provide mentorships and assist in custom textile projects for galleries, museums or businesses. With knowledge in both Adobe software and manufacturing I believe that communication, organisation, attention to detail and creativity are essential in this dynamic industry.
